Dr. Behera is Director of Cancer Informatics and the Director of Winship Research Informatics Shared Resource at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. She also serves as the Associate Director of Research for the Thoracic Oncology Program in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Emory School of Medicine.
Dr. Behera earned her master's and PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. She was at the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida before joining Emory University.
In her role as Director of the Winship Research Informatics Shared Resource, Dr. Behera leads the core in its objective to provide comprehensive and cutting edge informatics support to multidisciplinary Winship research programs. As the head of Cancer Informatics and overall IT operations at the cancer center, her responsibilities include strategic planning, budgeting, project and team management, resource assignment, systems architecture and infrastructure oversight. She also serves on the IT Planning Committee and HIPAA Steering Committee at the Emory University. As the Associate Director of Research in Medical Oncology, she oversees and facilitates the overall research efforts in the Thoracic Oncology Program. Her primary research interests include health outcomes research and population based studies focusing on thoracic cancers. Her areas of expertise include statistical modeling and analysis, evidence-based medicine and systematic reviews, digital image analysis and clinical informatics, epidemiological and population based studies, and biospecimen banking. Dr. Behera has an extensive track record of publications in peer reviewed and high impact journals and currently serves on the Editorial Board of the JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics Journal.
