Dr. Liz (Newlin) Canzone is a Principal Human Factors Psychologist in the Health Innovation Center at The MITRE Corporation (MITRE). Liz leverages her expertise in developing data sharing capabilities for federal sponsors to facilitate the development of research capabilities on a national scale across various domains, including patient safety, clinical quality, and oncology care. At MITRE, she serves as the Director of Operations and Deputy Program Manager for Common Oncology Data Elements eXtensions (CodeX), a community stakeholder-driven HL7 FHIR© Accelerator designed to optimize data and use API standards to support patient-centered and research. In addition, she recently led the Routine Care Study initiative as part of minimal Common Oncology Data Elements (mCODE®) initiative.

Throughout her 11 years at MITRE, Liz managed multiple projects including supporting strategic and tactical tasks related to a National Patient Safety Partnership, the safe use of health information
technology and most recently COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics. During her doctoral studies, Liz led multiple research studies with an emphasis on improving patient safety through the use of medical simulation. Over her professional career, Liz has honed her project management and stakeholder engagement skills.


Liz earned a Doctorate in Human Factors Psychology from Old Dominion University; a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Texas at Austin
