Danielle Bitterman, MD


Danielle Bitterman, M.D. is an Instructor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School and a faculty member at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her research interests lie at the intersection of oncology, natural language processing, and clinical implementation of artificial intelligence technologies. She develops natural language processing methods for oncology data extraction and curation from free text in the electronic medical records, and uses these data to inform clinical phenotyping and outcome prediction. She is also involved in translational artificial intelligence research, including clinical trials to clinically validate advanced artificial intelligence and informatics technologies.


She has a strong interest in the bioethical considerations of technology development and deployment in clinical settings, and develops standards and pipelines for rational implementation of such systems.

She received her undergraduate degree from Columbia University, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She graduated with her M.D. from New York University School of Medicine, and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her internship in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and her residency at the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program.
