Dr. R. Hannes Niedner is an independent consultant and expert on development of effective data strategies, data governance processes, data integrations and workflow optimization. In this capacity he has been serving a multitude of clients including NCI, academic cancer centers, biotech- and pharmaceutical companies typically supporting programs and projects in precision medicine and oncology research.

Dr. Niedner has 20 years of relevant experience in healthcare, bioinformatics and clinical research informatics, software engineering and data management, system interoperability and data standards all with a special focus on Oncology and translational research.

He received his Doctor of Medicine from the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena in Germany where he worked as a physician before joining the University of California, San Diego on a ten-year professional career that saw his migration from cancer pharmacology research, via bioinformatics to an accomplished software engineer and informatics expert. 

Prior to becoming an independent consultant, Dr. Niedner worked several years as senior software engineer, enterprise architecture consultant and biobanking informatics expert in industry, before returning to academia to serve as research professor and program director at Northwestern University and subsequently as assistant director of the University of California, San Francisco's Translational Informatics Program at the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
