Isaac provides informatics leadership and management oversight to the Cancer Research Informatics Shared Resource Facility at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center (MCC), while leading the custom software, database, and mobile application development efforts in support of the research programs of the MCC. Isaac also leads a team of informatics professionals that design, implement, and support the cancer patient data management system used by all non-federal hospitals in the state of Kentucky. This novel software system enables the collection of detailed cancer data on all cancer patients in the state, serving as the raw data behind the NCI-SEER cancer registry for Kentucky.


In addition, Mr. Hands has been involved in cancer data standards development for more than 10 years, leading the efforts to create and maintain the internationally deployed cancer registry data exchange format as co-Chair of the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries XML Data Exchange Standard Workgroup. He is also enrolled as a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Kentucky with a research focus on translational cancer informatics methods development.
