Madhusmita Behera, PhD


Dr.Behera is the Chief Informatics and Data Officer at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. In this role, she drives digital transformation and research growth through innovation and the implementation of technology that can positively affect patient care, outcomes, and safety. She provides strategic leadership of the research IT and informatics operations at Winship Cancer Institute, which is a NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. In addition, she also serves as the Director of the Data and Technology Applications (DATA) Shared Resource and has strong collaborations with Winship research programs.


She has an interdisciplinary background with a doctoral degree and training in Biomedical Engineering and has extensive experience working in informatics and biomedical research. She joined Emory in 2009 and has continued to establish the strategic direction and prioritization of data and advanced analytics, bridging scientific and clinical domains to strengthen an organization-wide data science and informatics community. She is well recognized as a national thought leader in cancer informatics and serves in leadership and advisory roles for multiple national committees and groups. Her original research is focused on cancer outcomes and population-based studies using real world data and evidence-based research. She has a significant track record of peer reviewed publications and serves on the Editorial Board of JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics (JCO CCI) Journal.
